Greta Kline a.k.a. Frankie Cosmos, has delivered an album that flies in the face of conventional wisdom. What was she thinking?
21 (!) songs can be found on her new album – Close It Quietly – mostly not much longer than two minutes and a half in duration each. It surely takes supreme confidence to present that many songs on an album and even more impressive when most of them stand up to scrutiny.
For the uninitiated, I suppose one could describe Kline’s work as ‘indie-pop’ although in tone and approach one can hear echoes of the anti-folk movement from 15 years ago and in particular, of The Moldy Peaches.
If nothing else, Close It Quietly, is a testament to Kline’s songwriting abilities. Each song is presented in an unfussy, austere arrangement that emphasises Kline’s vocals and lyrics.
An album that is easily consumed from start to finish.
… still there’s more …
