Fear Street Part Two 1978 is a 2021 American slasher horror drama film directed by Leigh Janiak, with a script co-written by Phil Graziadei and Janiak, from an original story by Kyle Killen, Graziadei, and Janiak. Based on the book series of the same name by R. L. Stine, the film was released by Netflix on July 9, 2021 as the second instalment in the Fear Street Trilogy.
Fear Street Part Two 1978 picks up after the ending of the first movie, where Deena and Josh take an out-of-control (possessed) Sam to C. Berman’s house for help. Now, C. Berman is one of the survivors of the summer camp massacre of 1978 and Deena and Josh believe that her survival story will help them defeat the witch, Sarah Fier in 1994.
Which is really then a cue for the rest of Fear Street Part Two 1978 to be told via Berman’s flashback. This story revolves around two sisters, Ziggy and Cindy at a summer camp, having to deal with typical teenage issues e.g. bullying, social anxiety, teenage libido and the Shadyside – Sunnyvale socio-cultural divide covered in the first movie.
Inevitably, of course, the curse of Sarah Fier rears its ugly head as more details are revealed about how and why the curse exists in the first place. One of the camp counsellors is possessed and goes on a murderous rampage and the sisters – with the assistance of a young Nick Goode (who is the town sheriff in ’94) – have to figure out how to defeat the witch.
The third act is gory and thrilling – true to all the slasher horror tropes – with an excellent twist at the very end. We believe that Fear Street Part Two 1978 is actually a stronger movie that the first one, which hopefully bodes well for the final instalment due next week – bring on Fear Street Part Three 1666! Highly recommended for all horror buffs!
