It’s the first new releases of the year so let’s take a (very) quick look at what’s out there on 6th January, shall we?
STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB – NOUN
Not pop-punk thankfully but instead faithful rendition of old school US punk i.e. Ramones, Stooges, New York Dolls etc. Not very original but one can appreciate the intention.
FRYARS – POWER
Electro-pop-rock that has equal measure of experimentalism and pop smarts. Quite grounded on 90s techno as well. Good fun.
CATFISH & THE BOTTLEMEN – THE BALCONY
Welsh pop-rock in the 80s new wave styling with a dash of 90s alt-rock that recalls Manic Street Preachers (lite) and the Stereophonics. Straight up, if you know what I mean.
THE CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENT – GONGS PLAYED BY VOICE
Prog rock without the frenetic virtuosity or low key psych rock? Can’t decide but it’s intriguing nonetheless although the melodies aren’t developed too much.
Slim pickings but typical for the first week of the year.
… still there’s more …
