It’s a new month – the best month of the year! So what’s new out there?
BUTCH WALKER – AFRAID OF GHOSTS
When pop-rockers venture into the country-folk space, most of time if their heart is in the right place, it can be pretty magical. Butch Walker proves this at least, with his new solo album. Gorgeous country-folk which recalls Neil Young and name checks Chrissie Hynde. Recommended.
CHIP Z’NUFF – STRANGE TIME
Remember Enuff Z’Nuff? 90s band that combined power pop, hard rock and glam in a fairly successful manner that slipped into obscurity. Well, Chip Z’Nuff still carries a reference to the original band and this new album will satisfy any old-time diehard fan. Music is promising but the production is simply weird. Reverb crazy weird!
TITLE FIGHT – HYPERVIEW
For its latest album, Title Fight – better known as a post-hardcore band – has morphed into an 80s alternative rock band. Most specifically, The Replacements! Which is certainly refreshing! Recommended.
ALL WE ARE – ALL WE ARE
Pleasing electronic dance pop from this Liverpool-based trio. Y’know, the kind you might probably see at Laneway Singapore, one of these days. Hipster bait.
NITE FIELDS – DEPERSONALISATION
No escaping the shoegaze-electonica sound in this day and age as we approach the latter days of the post-punk revival. Suitably atmospheric with a tinge of psychedelia to keep things interesting. Worth checking out!
ANDY SHAUF – THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS
Charming in its simplicity, this rustic throwback takes pre-rock ‘n’ roll precepts as its motivating force. Whimsical to a fault, Andy Shauf might have produced the perfectly formed hipster record. Recommended!
… still there’s more …
