What else was worth checking out in February? Here goes…
BLACKBERRY SMOKE – HOLDING ALL THE ROSES
An obvious choice. A real band playing real music. In this case, Southern Rock, country-folk and old time rock n roll make it simple. Recommended.
6 STRING DRAG – ROOTS ROCK N ROLL
Well, it does not get more straightforward than this. “Roots Rock N Roll” seems to encapsulate what Power of Pop looks for in new music. Authentic. Highly recommended.
PEACE – HAPPY PEOPLE
Well, here’s an album that hints of that 90s rock revival, we have been waiting for the longest time. Very Britpop sounding. Songwriting could be stronger but intention is solid. Recommended.
STEVE EARLE & THE DUKES – TERRAPLANE
Honest country-folk-blues from one of the masters. Rustic and swampy as this kind of music can get. Welcome back! Highly recommended.!
COLIN HAY – NEXT YEAR PEOPLE
Men At Work’s Colin Hay has a new album that is simple folk pop – somewhat unremarkable but it’s nice to hear that voice again. For 80s diehards only.
BLACK RYDER – THE DOOR BEHIND THE DOOR
There is post-punk revival and there is shoegaze, and never the twain shall meet. This is the way it should be – dreamy songs layered with sweet noise. Recommended.
THE POP GROUP – CITIZEN ZOMBIE
Now this is what I call post-punk. Coming quite out of the blue, this 80s comeback! Truly ‘experimental’ in the right sense of the word. Highly recommended.
… still there’s more …
