Spurs 2 Norwich 0

I predicted that the game would be close and that Spurs would win by at least two goals. Well, the first part of that prophecy was off the mark for sure! In fact, Spurs dominated the game so much that 4-0 or 5-0 would have been a greater reflection of its superiority. Christian Eriksen was given his debut and immediately, he demonstrated why he is one of the most exciting young prospects in European football. Eriksen provided the link play between midfield and Roberto Soldado (which had been missing from the first three games) and was behind most of Spurs’ penetrative forward moves.

Kudos to Gylfi Sigurdsson for coming into the side (for the injured Chadli) and grabbing both goals (the first with much aplomb, after a brilliant move involving Eriksen and Soldado) and for genuinely showing commitment to the team’s cause. Also worthy of mention – the performances of Danny Rose and Paulinho. After a season long loan at Sunderland, Rose has taken his chance at first team football and based on his fiery attitude deserves the make the position his own. Paulinho seemed to cover every blade of the White Hart Lane pitch and crowned a superb display with his assist for Sigurdsson’s second.

Hugo Lloris gave some cause for concern with an illegal punch outside the boxa and some nervy handling but otherwise was untested for the bulk of the game. The right side combination of Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend needs work and hopefully Aaron Lennon is fit to return soon enough. Walker needs to work on his defensive concentration – has bags of confidence and pace but more experience will make him wiser, hopefully. Erik Lamela came on late in the game but one suspects he is some way off from being match fit and might take some time before Spurs fans see the best of this young talented footballer.

A promising start to the season which sees us joint top with the Arse (who typically had the rub of the green against Sunderland when the Black Cats were robbed by the referee of a legitimate goal) but the best news is that we have keep three clean sheets so far!
