Synopsis
Daredevil/Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) has put the Kingpin/Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) in jail and order seems to have returned to New York’s Hell Kitchen. That is until criminal gangs start getting butchered and rumour has it that a relentless one-man army (Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal)) is behind the killings. Along the way, Murdock’s ex-girlfriend Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) and his ex-master Stick (Scott Glen) come back into his life as the supernatural ninja assassin organisation The Hand enters the scene to complicate the matters. These complications take a toll on his relationships with best friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and budding romantic partner Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll).

To be honest, probably the weakest of the superhero TV shows are Agents of SHIELD and Legends of Tomorrow. Unfortunately, these were the only two shows that were aired this week with the far superior Flash, Supergirl and Arrow on hiatus, and with Agent Carter having completed the Season Two run.

The superhero TV shows have returned, by and large, and we hope to bring you our thoughts about how the various series are doing, week in week out. Spoilers, duh!
Content is king.
When distribution platforms like HBO, Amazon & Netflix began producing original content, these corporations were merely heeding this truth of that saying. The success of these ventures have now even persuaded MTV to take the plunge after years of reality TV programming.
Sherlock: The stage is set, the curtain rises, we are ready to begin.
Mary Watson: Begin what?
Sherlock: Sometimes to solve a case, one must first solve another.
John Watson: Oh, you have a case, then, a new one?
Sherlock: An old one, very old. I shall have to go deep.
John Watson: Deep? Into what?
Sherlock: Myself.
Fan favourite series Sherlock returns for a 4th season with a 90 minute holiday special, that as always showcases the clever, witty & self-referential writing of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and the screen chemistry of Benedict Cumberbatch (as Sherlock Holmes) and Martin Freeman (as Dr. John Watson).
Trust Arrow to give us something dark before X’Mas! With Damien Darhk hellbent on teaching Oliver Queen a lesson, the spectre of death was looming over all of Queen’s family, friends and beloved ones. Well, let’s just say it does not end well (remember that in the season opener, a death was foreshadowed) and so …
The third season of Agents of SHIELD has been upping the ante with the Inhumans dilemma. Throw in conspiracies within ACTU linked to HYDRA (inevitably), Simmon’s sojourn on the blue planet & the heightening of the Coulson-Ward feud – finally, Agents of SHIELD is providing some scifi-based competition to CW’s Arrow and The Flash.
A wonderful Xmas episode for The Flash! Attention was drawn to many faces as secrets were revealed, Weather Wizard & Trickster joined forces (Captain Cold demurred) & Team Flash (this time consisting of Cisco, Harrison AND Jay) saved the day! However, Wells had to make a Faustian bargain. Oh and not much of Barry in his costume…
“Human for a Day” – Supergirl loses her powers and Hank Henshaw reveals his true identity (yeah, spoiler-ish).
Debuting in January 2016, the DC/CW TV series Legends of Tomorrow is quite an ambitious superhero team project that spins off the successful Arrow and Flash series.
Scifi TV geeks have been waiting for a long time for a series that matches the epic sweep of Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica. Thus, when it was announced that Syfy was adapting James SA Corey’s Expanse series, there was palpable excitement amongst geeks that perhaps the wait was over. Based on the pilot, there is enough evidence that The Expanse may have a shot at emulating the greatness of the aforementioned series.
Netflix’s collaboration with Marvel featuring the grittier, street-wise superheroes of New York (of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) enters into Phase Two with Jessica Jones. Whilst Daredevil has a marquee-level brand recognition, Jessica Jones would only be familiar to diehard comic book fans, from the Marvel MAX series, Alias. Thus, it represented a bit of a risk for Netflix-Marvel to produce a Jessica Jones series over a more prominent character like say, The Punisher or even Luke Cage. But the gamble paid off and how!
I am a pretty emotional person, and am more so when I get older – I guess when you have a greater experience of loss and sadness – these scenes hit home. Sure, some of them are melodramatic and in fantastical settings (and one of them involves an imaginary friend) but death is a fact of life that as human beings, we will always be trying to come to terms with. Until of course, our own time is up! Enjoy (or not, as the case may be).
And… spoilers, duh!
Supergirl is the latest superhero TV series and joined the likes of The Flash (2nd Season), Arrow (4th) & Agents of SHIELD (3rd) in an ever-increasing costumed tights buffet. I don’t count Gotham as a superhero TV series as it is just a (boring) police procedural set in the Batman universe & worse still, a prequel (I hate prequels).
Ironically, despite the fact that the pilot was leaked online months ago, Supergirl’s premiere episode did very well out of the blocks. Presumably, the female lead and Superman associations put the new series in good stead. Apparently this series is based on the Christopher Reeve Superman continuity and thus adopts a more light-hearted tone. And thus has nothing to do with current DC comics continuity (which is messed up) or the DC movie universe as established by Man of Steel (very very dark) – which makes sense.
However, because of this, there is less Geek Out value to Supergirl compared to the other series above-mentioned & will probably appeal more to the Gotham crowd than hardcore comic book geeks. The Flash and Arrow still have an edge over Agents of SHIELD, due to the CW writers and producers being more faithful to the source material than even Marvel itself, surprisingly.
Oliver Queen’s running for Mayor of Star City (Arrow) and the appearance of King Shark (!!!) in The Flash (not to mention the new Firestorm) in the latest episodes gives us geeks exactly what we want in a superhero TV series – nods to original material, over the top heroics & of course, ridiculous villains! Awesome fun!

If you haven’t seen The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3 yet, then I suggest you stop reading because SPOILERS ensue!
