Singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn returns with his 34th studio album!
“Crowing Ignites” is an instrumental album and that is surprising considering how talented a wordsmith Cockburn is. Perhaps, Cockburn wanted the music to speak for itself, in an era where talk is cheep (sorry couldn’t resist!).
Cockburn does a good job in covering various music genres in the 11 tracks here. Folk (“Bardo Rush”), blues (“Blind Willie”), minimalist art-rock (“Seven Daggers) and jazz (“The Mt. Lefroy Waltz”).
There’s even a nod to his 80s pop heyday with “Sweetness and Light” which recalls the catchy rhythms of his hit “Wondering Where the Lions Are”. Something for every Cockburn fan here.
… still there’s more …
