Last but definitely not least, Baybeats Open Stage will also bring you CLEVE and SUPERSECT!
Formed in late 2012, CLEVE is a four-piece Alternative/Indie Rock band that plays quirky tunes with an old-fashioned sense of energy. Individually inspired by a myriad of genres across the ages, CLEVE comes together to bring you their take on genre-blending and stagecraft.
SUPERSECT is a rock band formed in 2014 comprising of a close-knit group of friends. Despite having known each other for years prior and spending almost every waking moment together, they never thought to play in the same music group. Eventually, after playing as session musicians in many other bands of varying genres, it became obvious to them that they should start their own band. Due to a shared interest in wuxia ( 武俠 ) culture and martial arts films, the band decided to adopt wuxia themes in their music. The name SUPERSECT derives from a loose translation of “超级派”, a naming convention commonly used by martial art sects in Chinese novels. The distinct sound of SUPERSECT is a result of the wide range of influences that each member has attached to themselves in their previous incarnations as session men, from funk rock bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers to 80’s thrash metal bands such as Metallica. Initially impaired by Singapore’s mandatory National Service (NS), the band took a brief respite until they completed basic military training. With a more stable schedule now they are able to resume practicing and producing new material. In 2016, SUPERSECT released a couple of demo recordings, and is looking to record a full-length album in 2017.
