The premise of Bad Sisters is quite unique and intriguing – it follows the titular Garvey sisters, whom have united behind a common cause viz. to save their sister Grace from her domineering husband, John Paul. However, the means by which they hope to achieve this end is by killing their brother-in-law!

Creator Horgen plays Eva – ostensibly the main character of Bad Sisters – as she leads her other siblings viz. the one-eyed Bibi (Sarah Greene), the cuckolding Ursula (Eva Birthistle) and the aimless Becka (Eve Hewson) – down the path of murder. Though the homicidal idea is Bibi’s, Eva is the sisters that sets the plan in motion as John Paul (the deliciously despicable Clae Bang) becomes a thorn in her side.
Bad Sisters is interesting as the tension is not about who killed John Paul – the sisters did – but the question is how? The narrative is split into two. The present day – where the sisters are trying to fend off the investigations of insurance men Thomas and Matthew Claffin, who are interested in denying the claim by proving foul play. The past – where we discover how (and why) John Paul was killed. There is a light touch that runs throughout – despite the subject matter – it is a superb dark comedy.
By the end of the second episode, both Eva and Bibi fail in their mission, as John Paul survives their murder attempt – this of course raises the curiosity level for the episodes still to come. Highly recommended!
