S P O I L E R S
Entitled “Saving Grace”, Bad Sisters Ep 10 wraps up all the mysteries behind who killed John Paul (JP) ultimately. In addition, also answering the question – what will be the fate of the ‘bad’ sisters – who spent the entire series trying to kill JP in order to save their sister, Grace. Can the series resolve these plot threads in a satisfying manner?
In a word, YES! Bad Sisters Ep 10 is a masterclass of TV writing, a brilliant example of how to finish off an excellent story. Especially when one considers the poor writing and characterisations all too common nowadays (e.g. She-Hulk, Andor, The Rings of Power etc), one needs to savour good and effective writing when one comes across it!
Episode 9 had made it clear that the 4 sisters had nothing to do with JP’s death and had also suggested that there were other viable suspects viz. the neighbour Roger, Ursula’s lover Ben and Eva’s gay colleague Gabriel. Eventually, we discover that it was Grace all along as all the repressed anger within her poured out in an act of murder, against the most hated character in the series.
Ultimately, it is Matt Claffin who rises to the occasion in this finale as he is faced with a terrible decision. As he figures out what really happened to JP that fateful night, does he report his findings to the police and therefore condemn Becka to jail time? Or does he keep it all quiet, thereby exposing the insurance firm to bankruptcy and his brother to criminal liability? In the end, the series finds an amicable compromise that while morally ambiguous gives us the happy ending that all the characters deserve, despite the circumstances.
Bad Sisters Ep 10 is chockfull of revelations – more despicable behaviour from JP – that ‘justifies’ what his ultimate fate was. Karma? Justice? Divine judgment? Bad Sisters is very much a story about female empowerment but not in the barking preaching manner of Woke Hollywood but treating female characters as REAL people in REAL life. Kudos to everyone involved! One of the best TV series of 2022. Highly recommended.
