Avengers: Infinity War is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers.
To be honest I had reservations about Avengers: Infinity War.
Was it going to be a slapstick comedy about the end of half the universe? Was it going to be light on characterisation and plot due to the sheer number of characters featured? Would it be able to live up to all the hype?
Simply put, Avengers: Infinity War is the best comic book movie ever!
While I was watching the movie, the experience was like reading a epic cosmic superhero comic book series. But with IMAX 3D sound and vision!
As a fan of writer-artist Jim Starlin’s work, I am glad to report that this movie does justice (and more) to Starlin and his amazing run in comics like Captain Marvel, Warlock and Infinity Gauntlet – which featured his creation Thanos.
Ah, Thanos. Played by James Brolin, Thanos is the main character of this movie, he makes things happen and he has a quest – to collect all the infinity stones and thereby possess the power to wipe out half of the universe.
His motivations for doing so? Ah, that would be a spoiler. Suffice to say, it involves a very philosophical question that gives this villain much depth.
Almost all our favourite MCU superheroes are here and their allocated times come across very naturally. There are many surprises along the way that will make you laugh, cry and sit at the edge of your seat. Isn’t that what the finest blockbusters are about?
The interaction amongst characters is a joy to behold – yes, the usual Stan Lee type of humour remains but balanced with the drama and pathos that Jack Kirby was able to conjure with his magnificent art.
The fight sequences are again quite mind blowing, delivering some things never seen in superhero movies before – which is a major feat considering this era of superhero movie saturation we live in.
Most of all, the movie provides us with a conclusion that is a little bit unexpected but leaves everyone’s jaw on the ground, wanting and demanding more!
And I am going to leave this right here. Make sure nobody spoils this movie for you and go out and watch it as soon as humanly possible!
As a comic book geek, I am astounded that after a decade Marvel Studios have been able to present an almost perfect comic book movie as Avengers: Infinity War most certainly is. I eagerly await what comes next …
