Possibly one of the best spy thrillers in recent memory, 2017’s Atomic Blonde rewrites the playbook with Charlize Theron’s visceral performance as the titular character, MI6 operative Lorraine Broughton.
Adapted from the Coldest City graphic novel, the plot revolves around a spy who has to find a list of double agents who are being smuggled into the West, on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
Theron subverts the genre as a female James Bond, a stone cold killer and sexy to boot. She evens has the chance for a tryst with French spy Delphine Lasalle (Sophia Boutella), bringing bisexualism into the equation!
With a campy James McAvoy inhabiting the seedy David Percival, Atomic Blonde is a rollercoaster of a thriller with hardcore action sequences where Broughton has to summon her deepest reserves to survive the extremely violent moments.
Good news is that a sequel is in development right now. Don’t miss this.
… still there’s more …
