Andor Season 1 Ep 6

Entitled “The Eye”, Andor Season 1 Ep 6 finally gives us a rebel mission, after five tedious episodes. The heist of the Imperial payroll from the garrison is executed and is done so in clockwork fashion. Everything appears to go according to plan, such as it is. And it’s simple enough. Using the local Adani festival celebrations as a distraction, the rebels – disguised as Imperial soldiers – force the commandant to grant access to the payroll and it is loaded onto a supply ship for an easy getaway.

Andor Season 1 Ep 6

That’s basically as straightforward as it gets – boring even – for a heist. Guess the only real obstacle would be the amount of time it would take to load up the supply ship and whether any Imperial soldiers would return to the garrison ahead of time, instead of celebrating with the Adani. Inevitably, the latter actually happens and when it does, it appears that the rebels have no real contingency plan to deal with that and everything devolves into a shoot-out. Incompetence all around!

Now, we know that Andor will survive (he is in Rogue One, remember) and we don’t really care about the other characters, so the tension – critical in a heist story – is wiped off completely. Inevitably, of course, Andor is able to fly the supply ship to safety but almost every rebel is killed in the process. A doctor is visited to tend to the wounded – against the rebel leader’s wishes (what a terrible character!) – and Andor kills one of his fellow rebels (cannot be bothered to remember the name, who cares?) for suggesting that they should take the payroll for themselves and abandon the cause! What a despicable main character – a cold-blooded murderer!

Andor Season 1 Ep 6

Andor Season 1 Ep 6 is simply awful. If this was a heist story without the Star Wars trappings, nobody would give a fuck! Instead, folks are going on and on about how “realistic” this version of Star Wars is. No it isn’t, it’s just boring, pointless and meaningless. It’s just a poor written generic scifi narrative with the Star Wars branding. Stop already, Disney!
