Andor Season 1 Ep 1 – 3 perfectly illustrates why this Star Wars prequel series is a pointless exercise. Rogue One was a prequel cum spin-off which was pointless. Developed from a line in the opening crawl of the Star Wars movie into a full-blown movie that had no justification for existing, with meaningless characters that nobody cared about who all died at the end of the movie (which everybody knew would be the conclusion, so no tension whatsoever).

Now, Andor Season 1 Ep 1 – 3 brings us the opening parts of a pointless prequel series to a pointless prequel cum spin-off about a character – Cassian Andor – that nobody cares about then and nobody cares about now. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with Disney Star Wars?!?!?! AND… it does not help that the first three episodes are absolutely boring. A spy thriller series? We were falling asleep halfway through that meaningless first episode!

All we get is a bunch of characters, messing around with incomprehensible tech, trying to convey a sense of everyday life in the Star Wars universe in the 5 years before the Battle of Yavin – that’s when the (first) Death Star was destroyed at the end of the Star Wars movie if you are wondering. Inserted within these first batch of episodes are flashbacks to Andor’s childhood on Kenari (?) during the time of the Republic where an alien language is spoken without translation, making the scenes incomprehensible.

Sure, some might point to the third episode somewhat explaining what the fuck was going on in the first two episodes. Maybe. Barely though. All it accomplished was to show us how Andor was recruited into the rebellion again in a very boring mundane manner. Like a pointless origin story. Did we need to see all this to understand the character in Rogue One? Nope. Superficially, the episodes look good, the settings, costumes but nothing comes across as Star Wars – this is a generic scifi TV series that Disney has tacked on the “Star Wars” brand to. Nine episodes to go? And a 2nd season even? May the Force be with you!
Andor Season 1 Ep 1 – 3 is now streaming on Disney+.
