American Crime Story S03E10 is the finale of the third season of the true-life crime FX TV drama anthology series. Entitled “Impeachment” this season revolves around the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal and is based on the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President by Jeffrey Toobin.
Entitled “The Wilderness”, American Crime Story S03E10 brings back the focus where “Impeachment” began – with the female victims of President Bill Clinton. Linda Tripp – the delusion and paranoia of Clinton that drove her to betrayal of good friend Monica Lewinsky in the belief that she was ‘saving’ Monica and for Lewinsky herself, a lifetime of ridicule and public shaming that has branded and blighted her existence.

American Crime Story S03E10 also highlights for the audience two other victims – Paula Jones left to fend for herself once the Republican parasites got what they wanted – Clinton’s impeachment – leading her to earn a living by posing nude for Penthouse magazine. Not to mention Juanita Broaddrick who had alleged that Clinton had raped her in a hotel room in 1978.

Even as the season finale takes us into the lives and traumatic experiences of these women, it takes pains to narrate the Clintons as historical cyphers as somehow they manage to survive this mother of sex scandals relatively unscathed. Bill Clinton is acquitted by the Senate and Hillary Clinton is actually elected into the Senate. Arguably, the sex scandal operated as a springboard for her political journey that almost culminated in a return to the White House but this time as the first woman President of the USA.

Thus, American Crime Story : Impeachment is a cautionary tale about power – those who have it and those who don’t. Sure, these women made mistakes but their lack of power and control put then in impossible situations that would scar them forever. A highly recommended drama series.
