POWER OF POP MUSIC ALBUM REVIEW: WYATT BLAIR – POINT OF NO RETURN

ALBUM REVIEW: WYATT BLAIR – POINT OF NO RETURN

Wyatt Blair

Background
Record label founder. Recording wizard. Power pop maestro. Wyatt Blair is a man of many disciplines. His debut full-length, Banana Cream Dream, immortalized his love of all things sweet and solidified his place as one of LA’s top tunesmiths.

Strengths
An uncanny affinity with 80s pop-rock that encompasses the vagaries of that era’s new wave, arena rock, glam and hair metal channeled through 60s/70s bubblegum pop sensibilities. Thus, one can expect sugary tunes, soaring, harmonised guitar solos, lovelorn lyricism and workout-ready rhythms. An unabashed love letter to music scene now long gone but obviously not forgotten.

Highlights
“Dancing on a Dream”, “Monday Morning Mess”, “Young Hearts Unite”, “Cherry Pie”.

Sounds Like
The Runaways, Rick Springfield, The Go-Gos, The Cars.

Bottom Line
Point of No Return is a relic from a different age – for an entire generation of music lovers this is extreme nostalgia.
