ALBUM REVIEW: THE EXPLORERS CLUB – TOGETHER

explorers club

Background
The Explorers Club are a pop-rock band originally from the coast of South Carolina. The music of their first album is heavily influenced by the vocal harmony styles and production of The Beach Boys. They are also influenced by classic rock and roll arrangements as made popular by 60s pop bands. On Together, the band roped in Brian Wilson Band members Darian Sahanaja, Probyn Gregory, Nelson Bragg and Scott Bennett for notable collaborations.

Strengths
A remarkable affinity with the Beach Boys and other like-sounding pop bands of the 60s & 70s. Although approaching the level of pastiche, there is enough songwriting & arranging creativity to appreciate the music on its own terms. Admirable for its unwaverable dedication to re-presenting the music of Brian Wilson to a modern rock audience.

Highlights
“California’s Callin’ For Ya”, “Once in a While”, “Gold Winds”.

Sounds Like
Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys.

Bottom Line
Retro-pop of the highest order! Absolutely essential for fans of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys!
