Based in sunny Los Angeles, California, Rival Sons formed in 2008, the quartet of Scott Holiday (guitar), Robin Everhart (bass), Mike Miley (drums), and Jay Buchanan (vocals) captures that massively huge, guitar-driven classic rock sound, with rock-solid drumming and a riff-oriented approach to songwriting backing up Buchanan’s soaring vocals.
A commitment to authentic blues-rock that unapologetically channels their inspirations rather transparently. What some might cynically dismiss as a derivative approach is in actuality a laser-sharp focus on the sonic details that resurrect classic rock ’n’ roll from its current moribund state. When the rock is this vibrant, there is little incentive to dwell on existential questions when all instincts drive the listener to boogie instead.
“Tied Up”, “Thundering Voices”, “Pretty Face”.
Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Black Crowes.
The real thing. One of the more genuine purveyors of dirty bluesy hard rock out there in the modern rock wasteland.
