Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwood (bass), Phil Selway (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Ed O’Brien (guitar, backing vocals). A Moon Shaped Pool is the band’s ninth studio album.
Already in their late 40s, Radiohead remain musically restless and curious. Their creative independence can sometimes result in over-indulgence (previous album King of Limbs) but this is a rare quality in most alternative rock bands today so Radiohead provides a timely reminder of what music-making should aspire to, always. The songs are spare, enveloped with experimental textures, with an compositional approach that spans diverse genres – anchored by Thom Yorke’s distinctive vocal stylings.
“Burn the Witch”, “Desert Island Disk”, “True Love Waits”.
Everything that alternative rock should be – intellectually challenging, emotionally satisfying and never ever, safe. Radiohead lays down the marker for what modern rock should be and where it should go – following its own path.
