61st Street Episode 6 is the sixth instalment of an American legal drama television series created by Peter (Your Honor) Moffat that premiered on AMC. The TV series follows Moses Johnson, a promising high school athlete, who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system. (IMDb)

Entitled “Sins of the Father”, 61st Street Episode 6 – like the episode before – treads water in terms of plot progression. Sad to report that the storyline has not advanced much. Yes, the ‘magic’ bullet was found but there’s no indication – not in this episode in any case – what significance that bullet plays in the overall scheme of things. And … despite the fact that Moses Johnson’s murder trial is coming up very soon, we see very little actually being done by Franklin Roberts and his team in preparation for this trial.

What 61st Street Episode 6 does provide us with is more sub-plots concerning Moses’ incarceration where he has to deal with his father, Speak, essentially blackmailing him to work for the gang in prison; Joshua’s increasing involvement in gang activities; a little bit of Logan’s conflicted position between Rossi, his dead partner and the corrupted Brannigan; and of course the Roberts family dynamic where Franklin’s illness compromises his legal defence of Moses and damages his relationship with his wife and son, David.

Perhaps the fact that we are not quite yet halfway through this 16-part series is reason for the apparent pause in story development? Also, whatever happened to Moses’ bail – that seems to have fallen through the cracks in the narrative. Moses’ mother handed Franklin an envelope with $4,000 but that seemed to be for legal expenses. For a legal drama, the actual legal aspects are very spotty. Again, hoping things pick up very soon.
