THE FAST COLORS – LIVE AT HOOD [4.8.12]

The Fast Colors really started as a bit of a lark amongst the three founding members – Chris Toh, Pat Chng and yours truly – a vehicle for the trio of us to indulge in our classic rock fantasies. Also as a bit of an experiment to see if indeed cover bands have more fun in Singapore. Somehow someway the band has evolved into a 90s Singapore indie tribute band! Our last three gigs had seen us presented as some kind of standard bearer for Singapore original music, despite being in essence, a cover band. Go figure, eh?

So when the new Hood asked us to participate in its Saturday Originals Sessions launch last week, I found it deliciously ironic once again. Yet another occasion for The Fast Colors to turn misconception on its head!  To be honest, I was really feeling under the weather and didn’t even have any opportunity to rehearse with the band but the moment we launched into Padres’ “Radio Station” autopilot kicked in and the set went very well, I must say. I tried my best to be the rock front man as best I could, shaking my medicated arse every which way but loose…

The thirtysomethings and above in the audience responded well, singing along to those 90s indie hits but the lustiest cheers were reserved for our encore viz. Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” – classic rock fantasies fulfilled! So, who knows? Maybe this quirky side project might actually have some legs…
