GOOD TIMIN’

Even as I write this, The Beach Boys are mired in yet another dispute which has colored somewhat the feel-good vibes of the legendary band’s highly successful 50th Anniversary tour. Suffice to say there has been a disagreement over the continuation of the tour as Mike Love & Bruce Johnston tour their own diluted version of The Beach Boys instead, without the participation of Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks.

That all said, nothing can detract from the amazing remastering found on the latest Beach Boys‘ Greatest Hits set, Fifty Big Ones which re-presents this wonderful music in new and fresh ways! Even diehard Beach Boys obsessives have found these new remasters to have breathed new life into the glorious legacy of the band’s iconic music. The main improvement comes from the texture of the vocal harmonies (the band’s main asset) and the clarity of the instrumentation as well. Perhaps the most definitive Beach Boys compilation out there in terms of song selection and sound. Highly recommended!
