We’re digging the new Malay single from Sezairi – “Jangan Coba Berlari” (roughly translated as “Don’t try to run”) as it oozes the smooth classic pop-soul vibe that the singer-songwriter has made his name on.

The song was written by well-respected Indonesian pop singer Tulus and was produced in Bandung as well, with the final result reflective of that fact.

The video (directed by Helmindra) is highly watchable — cleverly made up of various long takes — and complements the intimate nature of the song itself. Check it out!

The Lion Story is one of the most promising mainstream Malay pop bands in Singapore. The former Noise apprentices (mentored by Don Richmond) released a well received debut EP two years ago and the band is back with this collaborative EP. Led by singer-songwriter Haramain Osman (who has written songs for Singapore idols Sezari Sezali and Sylvia Ratonel), the band’s music is in the main, innocuous pop-rock fodder with the classic pop of the 60s/70s serving as strong inspirations.
