REEL TO REAL: COMING MOVIES FOR MARCH 2015

Chappie poster

So… February was largely disappointing for new movies. Kingsman: The Secret Service was alright but Jupiter Ascending was abysmal. Sigh. Pray March will be better.

5th March

CHAPPIE
Directed by Neill Blomkamp.
Starring Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel.

Getting somewhat nervous about this one. Blomkamp did not do too well with Elysium and the idea of sentient robot is not exactly original, is it? Jackman is in it as well, as I generally do not like any movie he’s in. Ah well.

SONG ONE
Directed by Kate Barker-Froyland.
Starring Anne Hathaway and Johnny Flynn.

This romance looks interesting to me as a music buff cos of the music angle. Hathaway is usually good enough to carry a movie by herself and it is produced by Jonathan Demme. So.. promising?

12th March

RUN ALL NIGHT
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra
Starring Liam Neeson and Ed Nelson.

Seriously? “Liam Neeson Action Movie” is now a genre in itself! WTF

19th March

THE SECOND BEST MARIGOLD HOTEL
Directed by John Madden
Starring Dev Patel, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Richard Gere and Bill Nighy.

A Bollywood-centric comedy about senior citizens. Yes, that’s exciting as it sounds. And of course, Dev Patel!

KIDNAPPING FREDDY HEINEKEN
Directed by Daniel Alfredson.
Starring Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington and Anthony Hopkins.

Based on a true story, this is the inside story of the planning, execution, rousing aftermath and ultimate downfall of the kidnappers of beer tycoon Alfred “Freddy” Heineken, which resulted in the largest ransom ever paid for an individual. On the plus side, Anthony Hopkins, on other – Sam Worthington. Mm

26th March

THE GUNMAN
Directed by Pierre Morel.
Starring Sean Penn, Idris Elba, Javier Bardem.

A spy action thriller starring Sean Penn. Is he also following the Liam Neeson path? Well, Morel did direct Taken

Yeah yeah I know slim pickings but at least here in Singapore, we get Avengers: Age of Ultron on 23rd April! Woot!

  1. Did you hear that Blomkamp is working on the next Alien film? I think it’s supposed to come immediately after Aliens and erase that Aliens 3, 4 and the AVP films ever existed. Fine with me… Though I actually dug the extended unreleased version of Fincher’s 3rd film. Ridley Scott is producing this and still working on Prometheus 2 (which I think they’re calling Paradise).
