RED WANTING BLUE

RED WANTING BLUE These Magnificent Miles CD/DVD (Fanatic)

I will shamelessly confess to the fact that there was a moment in the DVD documentary that I had to stop and basically broke down in tears. The culprit? The Red Wanting Blue track Finger In The Air, along with the band members talking about what that song was all about.

They say, “give up and go back where you belong/Dreaming’s for the dead, kid, the road is too long”/Middle finger in the air, I’m still here/Egging them on…

For every dreamer who’s ever had to fight for what they believe in, this song resonates powerfully and it fit perfectly with the story that unfolded on this simple yet touching documentary.

Red Wanting Blue is an indie rock band which formed in the mid-90s and spent 14 long years releasing music and touring independently, whist holding down ‘proper jobs’ hoping for the day when a record label would give them a chance. Well, thankfully, the documentary has a happy ending as the band is now signed with indie label Fanatic Records. A new beginning…

These Magnificent Miles, the band’s 7th independently released album (re-released by Fanatic in 2010) is probably its strongest yet, filled with rustic authenticity and a vibrant rock ‘n’ roll heart and soul that is difficult to ignore. Apart from Finger In The Air, other highlights include the poignant Gravity, the catchy Where You Wanna Go and the rollicking New Cool. Fans of 90s music will no doubt hear the influences of REM, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Counting Crows, which the band puts to good use in these heartfelt songs.

The CD and the DVD mesh together well, and each adds depth to the other with each listen and viewing. The band is now working on its next album, which fans will no doubt eagerly anticipate…

Highly recommended!

Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see Red Wanting Blue in Singapore…
