What does it all mean? Was The Leftovers one of the best TV drama series ever made? Or was it one of the worst?
Well, it’s something you have got to take on faith. Believe and it will all become your reality. After all, isn’t that what The Leftovers was all about? How do human beings deal with things that they cannot understand or explain? They create religions to answer their questions.
Unless you have been following this extraordinary series religiously these past three years, you might well be a doubter who considers the faithful followers somewhat insane for pursuing the vision of creators Damon Lindelof and Tom Perotta to the very end.
And yes it pays off. Not by tying up loose ends or providing concrete answers as to why 2% of the world’s population disappeared on October 14, 2011. It does however, provided satisfactory closures for most of the ensemble of characters that captured our imaginations for 28 episodes. And that is enough.
