There is something to be said about a band’s ability to take indie-alternative rock clichés and elevate them into something artistically fresh. Well, London group Mt. Wolf may have achieved exactly that with the shimmering Aetherlight.
Think of the atmospheric BIG music that the likes of Echo & the Bunnymen, U2 and Simple Minds excelled in back in the 80s and upon which their disciples Radiohead and Sigur Ros built ecstatic songs, and imbue into that heady mix the modern touch of a Bon Iver or The National and voila, you might get Mt. Wolf!!
Upon first listening, it would be very easy for like-minded music fans to fall in love with songs like “The Electric” and “Heavenbound” as the band makes all the right moves (and sounds) to deliver an album truly impresses and delights with equal measure. One of the rare occasions in 2017 that you will listen to an album from start to finish and never feel the need to stop.
… still there’s more …
