Rich McCulley has been a popular singer-songwriter with Power of Pop and we have always done our best to plug his releases over the years. So we were pleased when Rich sent us his latest offering, Out Along the Edges.
The main reason why we do so is because Rich’s musical agenda matches ours – country-folk, power pop, jangle rock and rock ‘n’ roll all feature prominently. Rich’s dynamic songwriting remains as potent as ever here.
The first three songs fulfil their functions perfectly as the countrified “Hey Trouble”, the jangly “Eventually” and the boogie rockin’ “Burn a Hole in the Sky” set out Rich’s eclectic sonic template.
Suffice to say, there is a satisfying pattern that will appeal to lovers of classic 60s/70s pop-rock and each succeeding song demonstrates Rich’s gifts as an arranger, in addition to his abilities as a tunesmith.
For fans of The Jayhawks, early Wilco and Son Volt.
… still there’s more …
