PoP RECOMMENDS | POWER POP ROCK N ROLL : MANNEQUINS – FOUR [REVIEW]

The return of pop-rockers Mannequins is surely one of the best things to happen in the Singapore music scene in 2018!

Since impressing local audiences with their potent mix of power pop, pop-rock and alt-rock, at the 2013 Baybeats Festival,  Mannequins (viz. Darren John Aw, Gabriel Christopher Lim, Timothy Lloyd Bracken and Russell Andrew Clunies-Ross) have been on hiatus and this powerful comeback is welcomed indeed!

Once again, Mannequins sound quite like nobody else does in the local music scene. Delivering a note perfect rendition of the gorgeous Pop Underground of the ’90s alt-rock scene, the quartet recall the likes of Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, Foo Fighters, Sloan et al.

Each of the four tracks on Four – “Wrong Side of the Sun”, “Sunbird”, “Misery” and “I’ll Stick With You” epitomise the finest of the Power Pop Rock N Roll music that I have been championing on this website.

Dynamic guitar rock arrangements coupled with a astute melodic songwriting sensibility present a head-banging anthemic singalong vibe that is sadly missing from the current local music scene.

Four deserves all the attention it can possibly get – so it’s time to hail the return of Power Pop Rock N Roll to our shores and hopefully it is back to stay!

still there’s more
