PoP RECOMMENDS | POWER POP ROCK N ROLL : FRANZ FERDINAND – ALWAYS ASCENDING [REVIEW]

2018 welcomes one of its biggest albums with Always Ascending, the new release from Scottish band Franz Ferdinand on February 9th.

This hotly anticipated album – the band’s first in five years – certainly lives up to all the hype. It perfectly captures everything that Franz Ferdinand has always been about.

Always Ascending rocks out with serious attempts at funk, soul and disco pop, informed by an 80s new wave vibe that is irresistible.

Demonstrating that guitar rock and dance music can still co-exist (and flourish!), songs like the title track, “Lazy Boy” and “Finally” channel the best influences of Bowie, Roxy Music, CHIC, New Order and of course, Gang of Four.

Retro-futurist attitudes have always been the hallmark of the best 80s dance-rock and Always Ascending reflect these astutely in its sonic approach – moody synths, shiny guitars and a solid backbeat!

With pop cultural significant tracks like the resonating “Academy Awards” and the droning “Lois Lane” balancing the Moroder-fuelled party themes of “Glimpse of Love” and “Feel the Love Go”, Always Ascending announces the triumphant comeback of Franz Ferdinand as the band points to way to dance rock heaven!

Essential!
