Wow. Talk about a blast from the past! Today, Canada’s Label Obscura has reissued one of the best independent pop albums of the early 2000s – The Night And I Are Still So Young by The Heavy Blinkers. This is the first time this classic album will be released on vinyl.
Back in the early years of Power of Pop, The Heavy Blinkers would be featured regularly in our year-end best-of reviews.
This Canadian band were at the forefront of the chamber pop movement together with the likes of The High Llamas, Flaming Lips and Polyphonic Spree.
The Night And I Are Still So Young is definitely a highlight of their impressive career, with songs that reflect a healthy obsession with Brian Wilson, Burt Bacharach, Ennio Morricone, Jimmy Webb et al.
Thus, it isn’t too difficult to give this timely re-issue the PoP recommendation.
… still there’s more …
