A satisfying week for all concerned at KAMCO Music (meaning yours truly!) as the first edition of Indie Solo Live ran smoothly with a attentive group of family, friends and fans packing the Soho Coffee cafe. After the success of SING A NEW SONG, it was gratifying to put on a show on a smaller scale but once again with the focus on Singapore singer-songwriters sharing their original music.

Deon Toh had to withdraw due to illness (get well, Deon!) so I had to change my resolution to stop solo performances by filling in for one more time. The set was delivered simply enough – the usual suspects viz “I ♥ Singapore”, “Pasir Ris Sunrise”, “Liars in Love”, “Beyond the Ashes”, “Edge”, “Easy”, “Damaged”, “Gum” and “My One and Only” – and the songs went down quite well, I’m glad to report. Nothing like an appreciative crowd to give you wrong ideas! Haha!

Lydia Low (above) played a solid 45 minute set – mostly originals, many of them written in the last year – and apart from my favourites from the first EP (“Hole”, “Paper Promises”, “Sleeper’s Night Railway” and “Can’t Find the Time”), I really dug newer material like “Lone Neon Sign”, “I Swear I’ll Be Fine” and “Mad Maggie” amongst others. It was amazing to see how far Lydia has come in the time since we’ve started working together. Look out for her new EP currently being recorded.

And so… the good news is that there will be a 2nd edition of Indie Solo Live in July so stay tuned for announcements. Thanks again to everyone who turned up!
