CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE

It’s the first week of October 2012 and the new album – Emo Fascism – is done. Well almost. The fact is that the songs were all built up from foundations established in the last couple of years, from basic Garageband files. These GB files were imported into Patrick Chng’s Logic software (at the Neptune) and we tweaked the sounds, added new instrumental backing and recorded new vocals (in many cases, numerous harmony and backing vocals) in order to arrive at the ten main tracks to be found on Emo Fascism.

At the end of the recording process, there was a sense of relief and satisfaction and a determination to get the songs right – the way I hear them in my head. These songs represent the place I find myself in my life at this very moment with strong themes of breakups and breakdowns – the inherent loneliness we all experience as human beings and the conflicts within all relationships. Whether or not anybody else ‘gets’ the message of Emo Fascism is less a concern of mine right now – the main thing is for the album to please me first.

Patrick’s task now is to mixdown these ten songs (a skill that he has sharpened in the last two years) and already he has provided me with a first mix of “Follow Your Heart”, which I am pretty pleased with, subject to minor alterations. I am looking forward to hearing the mixdowns for the nine other songs (and one special bonus track) pretty soon.

I intend to chronicle the process in which we get from post-production to the launch of Emo Fascism and beyond right over here. Hope you will come along for the ride…
