Dion Roy rolls into town tomorrow and will begin his week long residency at TAB. Whilst we await his arrival, let’s take a quick peek at music that Dion has released thus far in his short career.

This ten-track debut album can be a little raw around the edges but there is no denying Dion’s songwriting chops. Basing his songs around traditional pop-rock structures with an indie edge, Dion certainly knows his way around a melody. Case in point – the appealing Wants It, the power pop-ish Downwards and orch-folky Orchid. There are moments where Dion’s voice gets a little pitchy but nothing too serious. A promising debut.

Dion’s latest release is a 4-track EP wherein the singer-songwriter ups the ante somewhat in the production stakes. Fuller arrangements fill the songs as edgier material (like the rocking Dirty Hotel Scenery and Long Way Down) mark a slight change of direction. Of Grey reveals a darker tone whilst The Wave’s soaring chorus provides uplifting moments to savor.
