When Dean Garcia formed CURVE with Toni Halliday back in 1990, he had already established himself as a solid musician through his involvement with the Eurythmics… and since Curve disbanded, he has been mainly produced music as SPC ECO, together with Rose Berlin. This is his latest project, a dark moody collaboration with Preston Maddox of Texan alternative rock band Bloody Knives.
Edgy dark electronica that screams “ROCK N ROLL!” at its listeners. This effect is achieved with gnarly fuzzed up sound waves without compromising everything that is dynamic about synth-pop. This sonic approach is matched by the attitude conveyed through driving beats, incongruent ambient synths and Maddox’s heavily treated vocals. It does not hurt that What We Want is full of immensely danceable tracks as well.
“Secret”, “Second Time”, “Dead Right”, “Deeper”.
Death in Vegas, Apollo 440, Nine Inch Nails.
Now this is what synths are for! S T F U explore the dark underbelly of EDM.
